Birthday Boy

Nate turned 30!! He kept complaining about how OLD he was getting and that he was now on the downhill side. I told him, "cheer up. You never know what's going to happen. You might die tomorrow, then you would have been on the downhill side for the last fifteen years!" Seriously though, we had fun celebrating his birthday on Saturday. He was originally scheduled to do his first long call on Saturday but his classmates told him he was not allowed to work on his birthday, so they switched him for Sunday. We were SO excited!!

WE started out the day by making breakfast in bed, per tradition. The kids "helped" me make crepes with strawberries, whipped cream, and chocolate milk. They were SO good! He opened his birthday presents: a couple of new OU shirts, a paint set (from Jayci) a Toy Story dry erase board (courtesy of Treyton), a Cocky belt buckle, a couple of shirts and pants from Gap, and some cards. We then got ready quickly and headed over to the Science Museum. We bought a membership there a couple of weeks ago and the kids have been dying to take Nate ever since.
(Just a heads up, our good camera was out of batteries, so I had to use the point and shoot. Disregard the horrible quality, please!)

It is a HUGE museum, with an IMAX theater, a planetarium, a live science show where they blow things up, a three story "tree house" with a slide that goes all the way down the middle, antique airplanes, a flight simulator, an antique train you can walk through, a cafe, a gymnastic area upstairs, space stations, and TONS more.

The gymnastics area is Griffey's favorite. Its one of the only ones he can go wherever he wants and doesn't try to run off.
The kids climb in this and then get shut in. They start off parallel to the ground and get to where a headset. We stand outside and watch them on the monitors as they blast off into space. It is adorable. They push buttons, turn perpendicular, talk to the space station, etc.

Treyton and Nate were in heaven in the building room. They spent a long time building lego cars and racing them down a track that times them. Trey one every time!

And, of course, we stopped by the museum shop to look around. THey have the best stuff! Griffin had so much fun with these snakes. He just kept snuggling them. Treyton and Jayci basically wanted to buy everything in there (and secretly so did I...it is awesome!) Nate was really impressed with the museum and we easily could have stayed MUCH longer, but we had to get back to finish our day.

After that, we dropped the kids off at Fara and Nate's house (thank you thank you!) and went out to a late lunch at Olive Garden and then headed to the mall to check out what Nate wanted to buy with his birthday money. After two hours of walking around, we headed back empty-handed. It is always so much harder to shop when you have real money to spend instead of window shopping!

Well, by the time we got home, Nate and I were both SO tired and hot (it had been 104 the past few days) that he said I didn't need to cook the dinner I had planned. I normally would have insisted, but we were both pretty full from lunch still, too. So, we watched a movie with the kids, had popcorn and smoothies, and later had cake.

Birthdays aren't quite as exciting when you aren't six anymore, but we still had a fun day. The kids loved having a day all about "dada". We definitely couldn't have asked for a better guy to celebrate!

What a great birthday!Hope 30 is treating you well so far.

You should know that Nick has already met and befriended another Nate-trying to fill the void in his life apparently. We speculated that he looks like he would slack off but is actually really brilliant- must be something with the name :) Miss you guys!
